PROTEIN POWDER: VEGAN AND UNFLAVOURED = YUMMY!

We love protein powder at Clear Medicine especially as a lot of our patients and customers find it is very difficult to fulfill their daily protein needs. Protein powders can provide an excellent source of protein in our diets and they’re convenient as well. If you are a conscious eater attempting to balance carbs, proteins and fats at each meal, you are probably aware that finding lean sources of protein can sometimes be challenging. This is especially true if you are vegan or vegetarian.

Patients often come into the clinic displaying symptoms of insufficient protein because they have not made a conscious effort to properly combine proteins or simply have not consumed enough protein to meet their daily requirements. This holds true for everyone, not just our vegans and vegetarians. Signs of insufficient protein include poor wound healing, dry skin, hair loss, gas and bloating, poor digestions, frequent colds and flus, prolonged soreness after exercise, mood swings, insomnia and depression.

Without protein, your body cannot properly make collagen to heal the skin; serotonin, dopamine and melatonin to boost mood and improve sleep, growth hormone for repair of body tissues and to slow down aging, digestive enzymes to prevent bloating and indigestion and antibodies to prevent infections. See why it is so important??

We are all jumping for joy here at Clear Medicine ove our new protein powder. WHY? One reason is that is is unflavoured – sometimes you want to add protein to a meal without adding a vanilla or chocolate flavour!!  We carry loads of amazing protein powders at Clear Medicine but yes, most are whey. Not that there is anything wrong with whey, but, we are always trying to find good vegan options. In one study,  they found that the supplementation with pea protein promoted a greater increase of muscle thickness as compared to placebo and especially for people starting or returning to a muscular strengthening. Since no difference was obtained between the two protein groups, vegetable pea proteins could be used as an alternative to whey-based dietary products.

Protein powder can literally make or break your smoothie. A great tasting protein makes it feel and taste like a fluffy guilty milkshake and a bad tasting protein can make you want to chuck it down the drain! Fear no more…as this one doesn’t really change the flavor at all!

REMINDER: Also, keep in mind it is essential to only add the protein powder at the end when using a blender because you can over process and damage the protein. When using a shaker cup, add protein powder right before consuming and shake well to evening distribute.

Pea Protein is a sugar-free source of unadulterated vegetable protein sourced from non-GMO peas and rice, providing 17 grams of high-quality protein in every scoop.

This flexible formula can be mixed with pure water or any beverage approved by your practitioner. Because it does not provide additional micronutrients, it can easily be added to any functional food formula, when additional protein is desired; or micronutrients can be mixed with Pea Protein in accordance with recommendations by your practitioner. Pea Protein is an excellent choice of supplementary protein for those who are sensitive to gluten; sugars, including lactose; sweeteners; or flavorings. Furthermore, the use of pea and rice proteins in Pea Protein avoids major food allergens including milk, egg, soy, and wheat.

Clear Medicine’s proprietary Pea Protein provides pea protein, excellent digestibility, and a well-balanced amino acid profile—including a particularly high content of lysine, arginine, and branched-chain amino acids. The pea protein in Pea Protein is naturally obtained by simple water extraction, keeping all the nutritional qualities intact. The combination of pea protein and rice protein achieves an amino acid score of 100%.

Adequate, good-quality protein helps the body sustain proper functioning. For instance, the amino acid supply (from dietary protein) is used to build functional proteins needed for healthy immune function and to produce the enzymes and hormones needed for metabolism, digestion, and other important processes like detoxification and bone remodeling. Pea Protein provides patients with a “clean,” unadulterated vegetable protein that enables a high level of protocol personalization.

“Clean” Protein: Pea Protein is an excellent choice of supplementary protein for vegans and those who are sensitive to sugar (including lactose), sweeteners, or flavorings. It is also free of gluten. Pea Protein provides protein from pea and rice sources, avoiding major food allergens including milk, egg, soy, and wheat. The pea protein in Pea Protein is non-GMO and is naturally obtained by simple water extraction, keeping all the nutritional qualities intact.

Flexible Formulation: Aside from providing clean, easily digestible vegetable protein, the advantage of Pea Protein is its flexibility. While other protein supplements provide high levels of various micronutrients, making it difficult to add protein to a patient’s nutritional protocol, Pea Protein is not enriched with extra micronutrients. Therefore, practitioners can design personalized protocols for their patients by directing them to add selected supplements to a Pea Protein shake or take encapsulated or tableted micronutrient supplements along with Pea Protein. Additionally, Pea Protein can easily be added to any functional food formula—if added protein is desired—without the concern of getting too much of any micronutrient. Because this formula is free of sugars and flavorings, it can be added to any approved beverage; or it can be mixed with pure water for a mild, earthy, pea soup taste.

Excellent Quality: Proteins for dietetic foods must provide good basic nutritional quality, which, in this case, means a high protein level, a well-balanced amino acid profile, and good digestibility. At 98% digestibility, pea protein is considered highly digestible and matches that of beef, milk, and soy protein digestibility. The protein content of the pea protein features a well-balanced amino acid profile (listed on reverse side), including a high content of lysine, arginine, and branched-chain amino acids (leucine, isoleucine, and valine). Amino acid scoring provides a way to predict how efficiently protein will meet a person’s amino acid needs. Because pea protein alone is incomplete, combining it with rice protein makes Pea Protein a complete protein with an amino acid score of 100%.
